The Christian, the Church and the State

The unique spheres of family, state, academy, business etc., are not the church, nor are they subordinate parts of the church. Critically however, this does not mean they are not to be Christian – transformed and shaped by the gospel, the Word of God and Lordship of Christ. It only means they are not required to be under church control. When it comes to political life and society, the church’s role is not to impose, but to prophetically propose, its biblical insight for culture.

Joe Boot explains the roots of the present cult of expertise and its role in enabling civil government to reach into areas of life where it does not belong. He calls the people of God and the church of Jesus Christ to boldly proclaim the rule of Christ’s kingdom over all earthly powers.
