The silence of the arctic night was broken by the strange sound of husky dogs barking. A boat was approaching in the distance.

Out of the darkness loomed the shadowy figure of a local Inuit. He had made the dangerous journey along the west coast of Baffin Island to Arctic Bay. Jack Turner had been shot and was in urgent need of medical attention.

Usually it was Jack who was the one who helped others. Being a trained pharmacist and pastor he was the one who would heal people’s bodies and tend to their souls with the message of the gospel. He had come to this inhospitable land to translate God’s Word into the native language. It was a world of snow and hunting and anyone who lived there had to become familiar with the ways of living in the arctic. Ten weeks out of every year the sun never set and for three months the world was in complete darkness.

The spiritual darkness of the North was being pushed back by the power of the Gospel and the Lord Jesus Christ that Jack Turner followed. But danger is around every corner in the wild North – and Jack runs into trouble.
